"Let Him save Himself, if He is the Christ.” That was the cry at the cross. The crowd assumed: if Jesus were truly the Christ, the King, He would come down and save Himself. If He didn’t, He wasn’t. But that was a false dilemma. It was precisely because He is the Christ that He refused to save Himself, choosing instead to save us. Jesus didn’t stay on the cross out of weakness, but out of love for you.
