Amidst Jesus’ promises of the Holy Spirit, He also delivers a sobering warning: the disciples will face hatred and persecution. Blessings and adversity will come hand in hand as along with bearing fruit there will be a cost to being identified with Him. Hated by the world, they will receive help from the Spirit to hang in there and persevere knowing that evil may give the illusion of triumph for a season, but time will dispel the illusion as they bear witness to Him and share in His victory.
